- Diane was born on October 6, 1936, in Posen Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the daughter of Martin and Sophie (Munsch) Behrman, the youngest of four children. She attended country school and graduated from Wood Lake High School, Wood Lake, Minnesota. As a young woman she worked in the grocery store in Wood Lake. In her early twenties she was treated for but overcame polio.
She met Archie E. Halverson when he returned from service in Korea. Their dates were planned around the local dance hall schedule and on the dance floor they looked like a couple made for each other.
On September 1, 1956, a beautiful fall day, Diane married Archie Halverson at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. Archie and Diane made their Home northwest of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, where they lived and farmed together. To this union three children were born, Wynn, Paula and Ward.
Diane was a member of the Hanley Falls American Legion Auxiliary, and the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher for several years. She enjoyed her summers at Lake Ida for many years.
On October 31, 2004, at the age of 68, Diane died at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
She is survived by her children: Wynn K. Halverson, Paula and her husband Greg Wilson and their children Josh and Whitney, Ward Halverson and his wife Stacy and their sons Jackson John and William James; brother Morris Behrman and his wife Fran, and Morris' children Nanon, Noelle, Leigh, and Lane and their families; her beloved sister's daughter Darnell and family; brother-in-law Orville Zimmer; and many other relatives, including aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death her parents; husband Archie in 1982; brother Maynard; sister Lorraine; sister-in-law Carol; and stepfather Tony Steinkraus.
Diane will be remembered for her feisty spirit, and her strength to deal with life's challenges.
